Three new fine art photography images have been published to the gallery.
The three images feature the Blue Ridge Parkway.
To celebrate the new growth and beauty of Spring, the first image is of Puckett Cabin in the Springtime. Puckett’s Cabin is the former home of Orlena Hawks Puckett. Born in 1837, “Aunt Orlene” served as a midwife and assisted with over 1,ooo births. She continued to assist as midwife until her death at the age of 102.
Puckett Cabin is located at milepost 190 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia and is especially beautiful in the Spring and Fall.

Four new fine art landscape photography and paintography images have been published in the gallery.
The images span the breadth of North Carolina’s most beautiful areas and include the Craggy Gardens area of the Blue Ridge Parkway in the North Carolina mountains and the Outer Banks on coastal North Carolina.
The images consist of traditional fine art photography and fine art paintography (hand-created digitally-painted photographs), in color and black and white renditions. The color rendition is available as a limited edition print.
The first image is my personal favorite:

This digitally hand-painted image is of Craggy Gardens on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the North Carolina mountains. In the spring and summer seasons, hiking trails in this area are Read the rest of this entry »

Four new fine art landscape photographs have been published in the gallery. The four fine art images include both abstract and paintography styles. Paintography is a photograph that is digitally hand-painted to give it a unique, painterly style. The two paintography images are offered as limited edition prints with a limit of 25 prints per print size.
My favorite is Deadwood Dunes:

Deadwood Dunes
I have taken many pictures of this driftwood bush and the sand dune over a two year period (here’s one). Night shots, day shots, sunrise and sunset. It has been interesting to watch this scene change. This image was captured Read the rest of this entry »

New fine art landscape photos have been published to the Fine Art Photography Works gallery. The stunning new images include fine art black and white photography, fine art color photography, and new manually-created paintography images.
Below is a preview of the images and a little info about each.
Pathway into Oblivion

A dirt road lined with surrealistic trees winds around a bend and disappears into the foggy nothingness.
This is my favorite. The image was captured in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina near the area of the Read the rest of this entry »

Two new images have been published. I am especially excited about these images because I like them very much. But I am also aware that others may not. It is for that reason – that difference in opinion – that I think the images are important and why I would like to write a few thoughts about them. It’s because the images are symbolic of never-ending debates in the world of art.
Image One:
This first image is abstract:

"Naked Trees" (click image to view in gallery)
I like this image because it is clean and simple. The branches flow with gentle lines and curves. The shading and textures are pleasant to the eye. To me, it’s a nice image.

I recently added new fine art photography images to the fine art online gallery (http://www.fineartphotographyworks.com)
Following is information about the images and their creation.
STORMY BODIE

Stormy Bodie
This is my favorite of the bunch. Not because it’s the best, but because of personal reasons. Often a photographer’s personal experiences encountered while capturing an image will influence their feelings about it, as is the case with this image.
I enjoy the challenge of shooting pictures under adverse conditions. All too often I run across photographers who run and hide their heads from the rain, thinking that their best work should be done in fair weather. I have found that the most dramatic images are often created in and under bad conditions.
Such is the case with this image. This is the Bodie Lighthouse on Bodie Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This image was shot while tropical storm Danny was rolling over the Outer Banks in August, 2009. High winds, walls of driving rain, incredible non-stop lightning… the conditions could not have been better!
When I left Buxton (Outer Banks – Hatteras Island) that morning, I did not know where to go. I had no plan other than to be shooting somewhere at first light, about an hour before sunrise. I didn’t really expect to see a sunrise during a tropical storm, but I wanted to do something! That quiet, still little voice in my ear said “Bodie!” So I went.
It’s normally about a 45 minute drive from Buxton to Bodie. It took longer. As I made the drive in the dark, I became disheartened because I drove thru patches of horrendous downpours and wind. The highway was flooded in areas, as 12 often is. I often use an umbrella to shoot in rain, but I knew that would not be possible this time because the wind was so heavy it would have blown the top of the umbrella apart. I truly believed that when I got to Bodie I would be forced to stay in the car and watch.
As I began to near Bodie, I literally shouted out loud! Woo Hoo! Read the rest of this entry »

Unfortunately, the old blog has been lost due to a database error. Also unfortunate, it was not backed up. As opposed to trying to recreate the articles, I have decided to start afresh with this new blog.
