Infrared Photography
Abstract Photography
by fine art landscape photographer Dan Carmichael
Fine art infrared photography is a very unique style and look in the world of fine art photography. An infrared photo can
be stunningly beautiful, dramatic, and surrealistic. Their appearance can be like traditional black and white landscape photography or they can be abstract. Infrared landscapes are mesmerizing. Upon research, you will find that infrared photos among landscape photographers is a rarity. My infrared images are true infrared, and not the fake infrared created in photoshop that looks close to, but do not capture the mood and drama of an authentic infrared image. And infrared images are that - dramatic!
I have been intrigued by fine art black and white infrared photography for over 30 years. In earlier (film) years, I explored the style thoughly, but treated the infrared landscapes as a peripheral interest among my landscape art prints. However, in recent years my interest has increased and
I have been, and continue, to fully integrate infrared photos into my work as a traditional as well as an abstract photographer. Over the past 5 years, I have made a substantial investment into specialized equipment specifically converted to produce high quality infrared photos. This equipment produces a very high quality image that is sharper and more-detailed. The cameras produce a larger "negative" size that allows the infrared landscape images to be enlarged to large print sizes.
The infrared photo prints make an excellent choice for decorating your home or workplace. They are beautiful but unusual and abstract at the same time.
The fine art infrared landscape images can be found in the black and white sections of the gallery. All infrared photos are marked as being so. If you wish to view only the infrared photography, while viewing the images in a black and white photography gallery, use the "Search for Images in this Gallery" option (not the Search option at upper right) and search for the word "infrared." You can then view only the infrared photography in that black and white gallery.
